We have two new Adult Bible Studies beginning this spring:

Travis Stanley and Jeremy Loy will be teaching a study on “Becoming a Neighborhood Church”. This class will explore Christian practices such as Hospitality, Healing, Contemplation, Testimony, Diversity, Justice and Worship, asking the question how these practices can transform our church into a church for our Neighborhood. Our resource for this class will be Diana Butler Bass’ book Christianity for the Rest of Us: How the Neighborhood Church is Transforming the Faith. This class will meet Sunday Mornings at 9:15 a.m. in our Educational Building, room 104.

Monroe Teague will be teaching a study on the Life of Joseph. Using the life of Joseph as inspiration, this class will search for relevant insights into the questions of our own lives: How does our family background affect us? What happens when parents show favoritism? How do performance standards affect children? How can we deal with the temptations of success? Why must we be people of firm conviction? How do we handle bitterness and pride? How should we respond when we are wrong? This class will meet Sunday Mornings at 9:15 a.m. in our Educational Building, room 102.

This Sunday, February 24, immediately after our worship assembly we will have our monthly fellowship meal. All visitors are welcome to share in this free meal.

During our worship assembly we will be focusing on Mark 10:17-31, the story of the Rich Man and Jesus. Monroe Teague will be our worship leader, filling in for our regular worship leader, Chet McDoniel, who will be out of town this week speaking to teens at the WinterFest youth rally in Gatlinburg, TN.

Join us each Wednesday Evening at 6pm for our midweek programs. If you like to sing, our choir is rehearsing for our Easter Worship. For those wanting to dig deeper into God’s Word, Travis is leading a study on the book of Mark. If you are a young adult, join us at 6:30pm at the Merchants’ home for an uplifting time of food, fellowship, worship and study.

This Sunday, December 23rd, is our annual Christmas Worship led by the PPCC choir. Chet and the choir have been rehearsing for months to bring us a special worship service focusing on the birth of Christ. The choir will be singing some new songs as well as many of our old Christmas favorites, all surrounded by the reading of the birth story of Jesus from Luke’s Gospel. You won’t want to miss this annual PPCC tradition.

This Sunday Travis will conclude his Advent series with a message entitled “The Christmas Story: A Story of Revolution,” Matthew 2. Although we often look at the Christmas story as a touching, beautiful story, the story is also very controversial. The birth of Jesus caused Herod to massacre thousands of infants, forcing Mary and Joseph to flee as refugees. The birth of Jesus was a threat to the temporal power of Herod. Today, Jesus is often seen as being on the side of the powers of this world, but the Christmas story reminds us that if Jesus is Lord, then Herod is not. This Sunday Travis will explore this side of Jesus’ birth, asking how the birth of Jesus is still revolutionary in our world today.
